Brothers Jean-Jacques and Remi run Domaine Bonnet-Huteau, 10km north of Clisson.
Family owned for over 150 years, they are certified organic and practicing biodynamic – ploughing, organic fertilisation and natural stimulant plant preparations are just some elements of their vineyard ecosystem.
They vinify different soil types separately to allow expression of individual terroirs. Fermentations in concrete and stainless steel tanks are by indigenous yeast, and the wines are left with the yeast cells for 6-10 months (‘sur lie’) before release.
Les Dabinieres’ is a single vineyard site, characterised by shallow, schist and gneiss soils. This helps to naturally limit yields from the vineyard, which are extremely low. The bouquet has ripe citrus and some unexpected apricot notes. The palate weight is also very generous, with some subtle yeast nuance and lingering orange pith. Exceptional.
