2017 Garagiste Le Stagiaire Pinot Gris

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

$30.00

Winemaker: Barnaby Flanders
Vineyard/Year: Garagiste / 2017
Being poured at: Cumulus Up

Anyone with even a passing interest in cool-climate Australia will already know that Garagiste is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s brightest rising stars.

Made in a pure-fruited, medium bodied style that takes its inspiration from Burgundy rather than northern Italy or Alsace, this finely weighted Gris is drawn from a south-facing site in Merricks. The fruit was hand sorted in the vineyard and winery, then whole bunch pressed into old barriques to ferment (on high solids) using indigenous yeasts. The wine only goes through partial malolactic, to preserve freshness, and was matured on its lees in old neutral barrel for six months.

Tasting notes

Straw in appearance with a subtle pink hue, this year's release leads with juicy Bosc pear scented with wild honey and brown spices. The palate is mouthwatering and defined with succulent stone fruit, fennel and preserved lemon flavours tapering to a crisp, chalky close.
