2015 Bannockburn Sauvignon Blanc
Vineyard/Year: Bannockburn / 2015
Being poured at: City Wine Shop
Since its establishment by Stuart Reginald Hooper in 1974, Bannockburn Vineyards has been at the vanguard of the Australian fine wine story, producing vineyard specific wines of the highest quality from the start.
With a new winemaker comes new ideas and new philosophies. This is Matt Holme’s first bona fide Bannockburn Sauvignon, the one where he has overseen the growing season, harvest and winemaking duties. For his 2016, Holmes split the fruit three ways: a third was destemmed and lightly crushed before fermentation on skins for one week, finishing in older puncheons, another was whole bunch pressed to puncheons, and the remainder whole bunch pressed to tank. Picking early to preserve freshness, there’s plenty of mouthwatering natural acidity and varietal tension in this otherwise warm year. An exciting freshman effort, and a taste of things to come from this young talent.
