Since its establishment by Stuart Reginald Hooper in 1974, Bannockburn Vineyards has been at the vanguard of the Australian fine wine story, producing vineyard specific wines of the highest quality from the start.
Matt Holmes’ 2017 Riesling is the first to include material from a younger plot of Riesling, yet remains based on Bannockburn’s ungrafted 1976 plantings. Unusually for an arid region, Bannockburn experienced a little botrytis in the younger vineyard, and decided to incorporate a selection of partially botrytised bunches for texture and aromatic complexity. The lion’s share of the Riesling was fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, while the botrytised selection was fermented and raised in neutral oak.
