2022 Shaw + Smith Balhannah Shiraz

The 2022 Shaw + Smith Balhannah Shiraz is a medium-bodied, cool-climate wine that showcases the unique characteristics of the Balhannah vineyard. Its complex nose features fennel seed, spiced plum, and dried sage aromas, complemented by hints of lavender and green olive. On the palate, the wine is balanced and medium-bodied, offering flavours of graphite, sage, Kalamata olive brine, and satsuma plum. The palate is framed by fine, grippy tannins and lively acidity, leading to a long finish that suggests excellent aging potential.
Crafted from low-yielding vines planted in loam over clay, ironstone, quartzite, and shale, this Shiraz underwent whole bunch fermentation and was aged for 14 months in French oak puncheons, 20% of which were new. The 2022 vintage benefited from a cool La Niña season, resulting in grapes with excellent concentration and aromatics.
