James Scarcebrook – The Intrepid Wino

We would like to introduce you to James Scarcebrook – The Intrepid Wino – who is going to curate some unique collections for The Local Drop, along with tasting videos all about the wines selected.

After starting his first job in the wine industry in 2004, and having recently completed a Masters degree in Wine Business, James Scarcebrook embarked on a 16-month wine odyssey around the world in 2011. He launched his wine blog at this time to chronicle his journey, dubbing himself The intrepid Wino. Since returning he has found time outside of his day job as a wine rep for some fantastic importers to continue his writing and speaking on wine, including hosting Australia’s premier wine podcast, The Vincast.

Having grown up with lots of Italian cultural and language influences, it is probably unsurprising that he discovered a great affinity for and love of Italian wines and the varieties they are made from. Having travelled extensively across such an incredible and diverse country, seeing these grape varieties in their natural habitat, as well as tasting some of the best wines that Italy has to offer, he is very excited about their potential in Australia. His belief is that not only are they suited to Australia’s sunny and dry climate, but they are also perfect to produce the honest and delicious wines Australians love.

For his first curated collection James has selected six examples that are part of a new revolution going on, from a mixture of wine producers that have either been huge influences on their growth, or are new and exciting expressions.
